To our friends + family + community- We are humbled, blessed and blown away with the excitement you all have for us. I also have to say, I am banking on how many of you said we will be great parents in the future. When I picture myself knee deep in poopy diapers, baby screams, bottle prep and sleepless nights I am going to remember you all had so much faith in me as a mom!
Although, I may not be growing a baby bump and experiencing life inside of me, every day we are forming more of a relationship with our baby within our hearts. This process looks a lot different than a typical pregnancy, but we are just as excited and want you to celebrate this time of waiting with us!
As we said in our Announcement video last week, we really want you all to experience the Lord’s goodness by walking this journey with us. We are beyond thankful to have your prayers, love and support as we know it will be needed now more than ever.
Getting to the point we are at has meant piles of paperwork, conversations about our future, hard questions and interviews that dug into every aspect of our life. Parts of this process will make you overthink everything about yourself, your spouse, your family and your home.
Before I go on too much we want to give you an update of where we are at with our journey to Baby C. Below are some common questions we have been asked:
Question #1: Are you adopting a newborn?
Yes! Our dream would be to be at the hospital when our baby is born but that is yet to be determined. It will be an incredibly surreal, painful, exciting and heartbreaking moment. I pray for that time, the days leading up to it and the days after.
Question #2: Do you have a gender preference?
We have NO preference for gender or race. We really are open to the Lord’s will for us. We can’t wait to be surprised as well!
Question #3: International or Domestic?
Domestic! We are pursuing a domestic adoption through Christian Adoption Consultants (CAC). They have a really faith filled passion for adoption and tons of knowledge and experience. Our consultant (Casey) is an adoptive mamma herself. I feel so supported anytime I talk with her. She always seems to speak my language and calm my fears. They will take our profile book and home study and share it with multiple agencies as well as really guide us through the whole process. We actually made the decision to move forward with them at the end of January 2016.
Question #4: Are you pursuing open or closed adoption?
Our hope is for some level of open adoption. We are unsure exactly what that looks like at this point but we trust the Lord’s plan for this future relationship.
Question #5: Do you know when it will happen?
No! For an OCD, planning type such as myself this is PAINFUL. We were home study approved the end of September and have our profile books ready. We are now applying with a few agencies and prayerfully considering situations as they come to us. It could really be anytime! We are submitting to the Lord’s timing and what he places on our hearts to pursue.
At the end of the day, the reality is that this process is hard and an emotional rollercoaster. There will be moments where we will need tons of encouragement and love. Our little Baby C village will be more important now than ever.
Just as we have with our infertility journey, we hope to use this process as a way to help educate others and glorify HIM. If we can help someone see a different perspective or awareness towards adoption we feel like it is a win. If we can help a few people see and believe in the Lord’s goodness, well that’s a double win!
We also want to ask for you to pray for our birth family. From what we have seen, these situations are not easy. It isn’t just about the baby we will take home at the end of this, it is also about all of the people it affects along the way. Everyone involved has present and future fears and a lot of big and painful decisions to make. Please pray along with us specifically for our birth mom to have physical and mental strength, discernment, wisdom and peace in her decision making and for God’s love and grace to radiate through her.
“Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid, just believe.” Mark 5:36
